CHANGSHU, China (Oct. 24, 2014) — Federal-Mogul Powertrain, a division of Federal-Mogul Holdings Corp., has opened a new Systems Protection manufacturing facility in Chengshu.

The new plant opened Oct. 23, according to a Federal-Mogul press release. Its purpose is to supply domestic customers in the automotive, high-speed rail and aviation sectors with systems protection products for specific local customer applications in China, the company said.

The 7,000-square-meter plant will provide Federal-Mogul with additional production capacity for its complete systems protection portfolio, including its Thermflex exhaust insulating sleeves, which are made with a special natural fiber that retains heat in exhaust pipes to allow effective decomposition of emissions, according to the company.

Thermflex sleeves have applications in passenger cars and public transit vehicles for reducing particulate matter and carbon monoxide emissions, Federal-Mogul said.

The Chengshu facility will allow Federal-Mogul to customize its systems protection products for Chinese customers, providing important benefits such as abrasion protection, thermal management, electromagnetic interference shielding, noise suppression and shock absorption, the company said.

Since opening its first Chinese operation in 1995, Federal-Mogul has established seven wholly-owned Chinese facilities in its Powertrain Division, as well as several joint ventures, with more than 4,000 employees serving customers around China. The company's Asia Pacific Technical Center in Shanghai is one of 16 engineering and technical centers it operates around the world.
