AMSTERDAM (Oct. 22, 2014) — BMW A.G. has bestowed Supplier Innovation Awards on Bridgestone Corp. and Pirelli Tyre S.p.A. for their “ologic” tire and dynamic curing technologies, respectively.
Bridgestone won in the “Efficient Dynamics” category for the reduced CO2-tuned tires it developed for the BMW i3 electric vehicle, using what it calls ologic technology.
Bridgestone was selected by BMW to develop tires that complement the dynamic handling and sustainable performance of its revolutionary i3 electric vehicle. The ologic tires have especially large diameters and narrow treads, which reduce tire deformation and loss of energy during driving, helping to reduce rolling resistance without compromising other performance criteria.
“BMW and Bridgestone share the same vision of sustainable mobility, and we are delighted to receive the BMW innovation award for our new ologic tyre technology,” said Franco Annunziato, CEO and president Bridgestone Europe.
The lowered rolling resistance leads to improved fuel consumption, lower CO2 emissions and in the case of pure electric engines, an extended range of operation, BMW said.
The award was presented by Gerhard Kurz, senior vice president, Purchasing Driving Dynamics, at a ceremony in Amsterdam.
Bridgestone supplies tires exclusively to the BMW i vehicle range, including Ecopia EP500 tires for the urban all-electric BMW i3 and Potenza S001 sport tires for the BMW i8 electric hybrid.
