Cooper's Discoverer X/T4 debuts for Canada

FINDLAY, Ohio (Oct. 2, 2014) — Cooper Tire & Rubber Co. has developed an all-terrain, four-season SUV and light truck tire, the Discoverer X/T4, specifically engineered for the Canadian market.

The tire, which is available in 23 SUV and light truck sizes — which come with 100,000- and 85,000-kilometer treadwear warranties, respectively. Cooper said the Discoverer X/T4 is designed to provide excellent on-road and off-road performance in all weather conditions. It will be distributed exclusively in Canada by Cooper Tire dealers.

The tire's aggressive five-rib, all-terrain tread pattern and silica tread compound work together to increase wet grip and winter traction capabilities without sacrificing tread wear, according to the Findlay-based tire maker. The tire achieved the “severe snow” rating as indicated by its three-peak mountain snowflake symbol.

Cooper said the tire's full-length, full-depth, micro-gauge corrugated siping and Snowgroove 2.0 technology provide multiple biting edges, designed to generate higher snow-on-snow traction and ice traction.

Other features include stone ejector ribs designed to help resist stone drilling, along with twin tie-bars, which Cooper said improve stability and are strategically placed on the tire to support a longer tread life. Both attributes contribute to a quieter, more controlled ride on mud, sand, rocks and loose soil, the firm added.

“Cooper is continuing to innovate by introducing high-quality products like the Discoverer X/T4, designed for truck and SUV owners who work and play hard, in all four seasons,” said Scott Jamieson, Cooper's director of product management.

“The X/T4 fills a void in the Canadian marketplace by presenting consumers with a reliable product that works equally well pulling the boat out in July, as it does pulling the sleds down a snow covered road in January.”
