MELBOURNE, Australia (Sept. 16, 2014) — Pirelli & C. S.p.A. is participating this week with the Federation International de l'Automobile (FIA) as a partner in this year's FIA Mobility Conference Week, the annual gathering of FIA Mobility clubs.
The 22nd Mobility Conference Week will take place Sept. 16-19 in Melbourne, hosted by the FIA, the Australian Automobile Association (AAA) and the Royal Automobile Club of Victoria (RACV).
The event is an opportunity for FIA Mobility experts to exchange views and debate issues of common concern with regard to future mobility needs. “Membership in a Connected World” is the theme of this year's conference.
As the first official partner of the event, Pirelli said it will bring to the forum its expertise on mobility questions with its motorsport director, Paul Hembery, taking part in panel discussions.
FIA President Jean Todt noted that Pirelli has a “tradition of promoting technology improvement through innovation and a focus on sustainability. These are key issues of interest to FIA mobility clubs as they continue to strengthen and enhance services to members and consumers.”
Mr. Hembery said Pirelli views the partnership as a key move, “as building sustainable mobility — with a focus on green performance — is at the heart of our business. Sustainability is the target of our research and all our products are conceived to allow safe and environmentally friendly mobility.
“Pirelli's commitment to road safety takes the form of numerous training and awareness-raising activities in several countries all around the world,” he said. “This philosophy is carried through to all our programs, including our motorsport activity which we see as our ultimate test laboratory, working towards a more sustainable future.”
Tom Vanderbilt, an author who writes on design, technology, science and culture, will deliver the keynote address, “Connected Vehicle, Connected Members” at 2 p.m. Sept. 16. His newest book, Traffic: Why We Drive the Way We Do (and What It Says About Us), has been on the New York Times bestseller list.
The Mobility Conference partnership builds on Pirelli's status as the official race tire supplier to the FIA Formula 1, 2, 3 and 4 championships.
