ROME (Sept. 11, 2014) — The organizer of the SuperBike World Championship (WSBK) has extended its race tire supply agreement with Pirelli Tyre S.p.A. for three years, through the end of the 2018 season.
The partnership between Dorna WSBK Organization S.r.l. and Pirelli started in 2004. Financial terms of the renewal were not disclosed.
“This renewal testifies our excellent relationship with (Pirelli),” WSBK Executive Director Javier Alonso said, “…and is clear evidence of Pirelli's ongoing and constant ability to innovate and to offer products at the forefront of technology.”
Uberto Thun-Hohenstein, senior vice president of Pirelli's motorcycle business unit, said the renewal of this partnership reflects the “constant commitment and well-finished service of our racing team that goes to the track every weekend to support the teams and the riders.”
The eni FIM Superbike World Championship is the world championship for production-derived motorcycles. Sanctioned by the Fédération Internationale de Motocyclisme. The WSBK differs from the MotoGP World Championship for motorcycles, which is for racing bikes.
Group Michelin earlier this year was named the official tire supplier of the MotoGP World Championship, starting in 2016, succeeding Bridgestone Corp., which is bowing out of the competition after the 2015 season, ending a 13-year run of being active in motorcycling top racing series.
