Now turn your attention to the rear cylinder head. Once again, loosen all the bridge bolts. Using the bottom illustration, torque each bridge bolt to 21 foot-pounds in the sequence shown. Once the bridge crushes to the shaft, loosen all the bolts, then retighten them to 18 foot-pounds in the same sequence. To complete the fix, adjust all the valve clearances, reinstall the valve covers, start the engine and check that the knocking or ticking noise has been eliminated.
Subaru
Some 1999-2008 Impreza and Forester, 2000-08 Legacy and Outback and 2006-08 Tribeca models may lose large amounts of antifreeze from the coolant reservoir. One likely cause, says Subaru, is a stuck negative pressure valve in the radiator cap. The valve sticks due to debris at the bottom of the reservoir being sucked up through the coolant hose as the cooling system cools. Cleaning the cap and reservoir and modifying the hose should eliminate the coolant loss.
Begin the fix by removing the radiator cap. Now turn the cap over, open the negative pressure valve with a small flat-bladed screwdriver and use a stiff brush and tap water to clean the sealing surface of the valve. Pressure test the cap to be sure it's within specification, then lay the cap aside. Next, remove the reservoir and flush it several times with clean water. Reinstall the reservoir, then fill with coolant to the Full mark. Now go to the coolant hose and cut about ¾-inch from the end at a 45 degree angle. Reinstall the hose and the pressure cap. To complete the fix, start the engine, let it reach operating temperature, shut it down, let the system cool, then add coolant to the reservoir, as necessary.
Chrysler
Owners of 2007-09 Dodge Calibers built before April 23, 2009, may complain that the vehicle rides roughly or handles poorly when driven over bumps or rough road surfaces. One probable cause for the trouble, says Chrysler, is a leaking front strut. The leakage can occur on one or both sides of the vehicle. Replacing the struts along with the jounce bumper and dust shield is the obvious fix. Note that the jounce bumper and shield are now two separate pieces, replacing the previous one-piece design. Order part no. 05171137AB for the new jounce bumper; part no. 05171132AC for the new dust shield.
