AKRON (July 2, 2014) — Alex Williamson has joined Myers Industries Inc. as vice president and general manager of the distribution segment.
He replaces Todd Smith, who has been promoted to vice president and general manager of Akro-Mils, a core material handling business for Myers.
Mr. Williamson will focus on the strategic growth of Myers' distribution segment, which includes its Myers Tire Supply, Myers Tire Supply International and Patch Rubber units, the company said.
Prior to joining Myers, Mr. Williamson was co-president of Seaman Corp. and held senior leadership positions at Noveon Inc. (now Lubrizol). He has more than 24 years' experience in business management, according to Myers, with a background in marketing, sales, chemistry and product engineering. He holds a Bachelor of Science and Master of Arts in Chemistry from The College of William and Mary, as well as an MBA from Case Western Reserve University.
Under Mr. Smith's leadership, Myers said the distribution segment successfully streamlined its U.S. operations from more than 30 branch locations to four strategically located distribution centers, resulting in reduced shipping costs and improved customer order fulfillment.
He has a background in lean manufacturing, along with continuous improvement project implementations. Mr. Smith joined the company in 2007 from Goodyear where he held the position of operations manager.
In his new position, Myers said Mr. Smith will focus on executing Akro-Mils and Jamco Products' strategic initiatives to profitably grow the storage and safety products business by strengthening their competitive advantage through broader distribution channels for healthcare, automotive and industrial markets. He also will focus on driving manufacturing efficiencies and global sourcing initiatives.
