BETHESDA, Md. (June 27, 2014) — The University of the Aftermarket Foundation has kicked off its summer fundraising program with two substantial donations.
Interstate Batteries recently contributed $10,000 and Meineke/Maaco/Driven Brands donated $5,000, the foundation said, with both donations helping to fund the University of the foundation's scholarship fund.
In thanking the companies for kick-starting the fundraising program, John Washbish, secretary of the foundation, said the university appreciates “their generosity and support of the University of the Aftermarket Foundation and we encourage other industry organizations to follow suit.”
The Bethesda-based foundation reported earlier this month that a record number of 131 students have been awarded scholarships. The recipients—all pursuing careers in the automotive aftermarket—each will receive a $1,000 scholarship to advance their education at either at two-year vocational or technical college or a four-year college or university.
“The University of the Aftermarket Foundation has just awarded more scholarships than ever before to talented young people looking to join our great industry,” said Bill Maggs of the foundation's contribution committee.
“With the help of companies like Interstate Batteries and Meineke/Maaco/Driven Brands, we can continue to expand this successful scholarship program and help train even more next-generation automotive professionals.”
