DETROIT (June 18, 2014) — For the first time, the Automotive Service Association (ASA) has scheduled a Young Technician's Symposium for the upcoming Congress of Automotive Repair & Service (CARS).
The symposium will take place at Detroit's COBO Center Aug. 1-2 as part of the larger convention scheduled for Detroit July 30-Aug. 2, the ASA said.
Robert Bosch G.m.b.H. will host the event, according to the ASA. “Targeting the two- to three-year technician, Bosch trainers will use interactive teaching methods to move young technicians from maintenance and light repairs to electrical and drivability diagnosis with confidence and speed,” the association said.
Bosch Training Manager Bob Pattengale is working with the ASA on solutions to the challenges young technicians face during their first years on the job, according to the association. Bosch recently conducted a trial training program with ASA-Colorado, it said.
From the ASA-Colorado experience, Bosch and the ASA decided to conduct a two-day, four-session program to teach young technicians with at least two years' experience a real-world grasp of basic electronics, gas and diesel engine management, sensors and actuators, and electronic brake management, the association said.
As always, CARS will be held concurrently with the International Autobody Congress and Exposition (NACE) at the same location. More information about the event is on the CARS website.
