Conti to sponsor Elkhart Lake TUSC race

Cars from a combined Grand-Am/ALMS race weekend last year lined up to preview what the Tudor United SportsCar Championship might look like.

ELKHART LAKE, Wis. (June 11, 2014) — Continental Tire the Americas L.L.C. will be the title sponsor for the Road America round of the Tudor United SportsCar Championship (TUSC) for the next few years, thanks to an agreement the tire maker signed recently with Road America Inc.

The deal starts this year with the “Continental Tire Road Race Showcase” on Aug. 7-10 at the sprawling Road America course near Elkhart Lake about an hour north of Milwaukee. That race weekend will include the Continental Tire SportsCar Challenge on Saturday and the TUSC race on Sunday, plus races from the IMSA GT3 Cup Challenge, IMSA Prototype Lites and Mazda MX-5 Cup.

Financial terms were not disclosed. Continental is the spec race tire supplier for three of the TUSC's four classes, as well as for the Continental Tire SportsCar Challenge.

“Road America is commonly known as America's ‘National Park of Speed' and serves as the perfect platform for Continental Tire to connect not only with the fans from Wisconsin, but across the nation as many fans drive long distances to be here for this one weekend,” said George Bruggenthies, Road America's president and general manager.

“We like to say, come for the experience and stay for the race, because this weekend will be packed with racing and we are thrilled to have Continental Tire join us in making this weekend even more memorable for everyone.”

Travis Roffler, director of marketing for Continental Tire, called it “an honor to be able to partner with historic tracks like this and help bring the excitement and passion of professional sports car racing to fans and enthusiasts.”

Continental also is the event sponsor for the TUSC round at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca. That event, the Continental Tire Monterey Grand Prix Powered by Mazda, was held May 2-4.

The TUSC Continental Tire 245 will run for two hours and 45 minutes at the 4-mile-long, 14-turn Road America circuit, starting at 1:05 p.m. CDT on Aug. 10.
