WASHINGTON (May 29, 2014) — Taiwanese tire maker Federal Corp. is recalling 6,209 Couragia A/T tires manufactured between May 2013 and April 2014 and sold in the U.S. and Canada.
The tires, size LT245/75R16 120/116Q 10PR, may suffer shoulder cracks caused by separation of the steel belt edge, Federal told the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).
The tires were built in Federal's Taipei, Taiwan, factory, and thus bear sidewall stampings reading “DOT UXA3.”
The cracks may cause loss of air pressure, increasing the risk of a crash, the tire maker said. The tires were built with a belt wider than that the design calls for, Federal told NHTSA.
The tire maker reported no instances of motor vehicle accidents, injuries or property damage related to the tires in question.
Federal will replace the tires free of charge. The company told NHTSA it would begin notifying tire owners on or about July 15.
Meanwhile, tire owners may call Federal at 855-444-8235. Federal's designated import agent is Vcorp Services L.L.C., 1811 Silverside Road, Wilmington, Del. 19810.
