Bosch raises support for student auto skills competition

DEARBORN, Mich. (May 19, 2014) — The Automotive Aftermarket Business Division of Robert Bosch L.L.C. is raising its support of the Ford/AAA Student Auto Skills competition.

Bosch said it will provide a Bosch Actron U-Scan vehicle diagnostic tool to each Student Auto Skills contestant on the state level. The tool allows technicians to use an IOS or Android device for vehicle diagnostics.

Those advancing to the national competition—which will take place June 8-10 in Dearborn—also will receive a Bosch 12V Max Lithium-Ion cordless combo drill/driver and impact driver kit, Bosch said.

The company also will sponsor the competition's awards dinner and a hospitality suite at the June 10 competition in Dearborn, it said.

Fifty two-person teams—one from each state—consisting of high-school juniors and seniors will compete for more than $10 million in scholarships at the Ford/AAA competition. More than 12,000 students compete annually for a slot in the nationals.

The competition is co-sponsored by AAA Inc. and Ford Motor Co. Its objective is to encourage talented young people to pursue careers as automotive service technicians.

Founded in 1949, the event has been sponsored by various organization, according to AAA, which has been involved since 1984. Ford began its partnership in 1994.
