ERLANGER, Ky. (April 25, 2014) — Bob Sumerel Tire Co., an Erlanger-based commercial tire distributor and service company, is acquiring five locations in northeast Ohio from Atlanta-based Kauffman Tire Inc., in a deal expected to close May 2.

Bob Sumerel Tire said the five outlets — located in Wooster, Ravenna, Orwell and Medina — are a part of Kauffman Tire's commercial division and are combo retail/commercial/ag tire service centers that also offer retreading services. The firm said it expects the stores will increase its revenue by approximately $25 million in the first year.

Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.

The stores will be Sumerel Tire's first in northern Ohio. The Erlanger-based dealership has nine other locations in the southern half of the state, stretching from Youngstown in the east to Cincinnati in the west. The dealership also has two locations in northern Kentucky and two in western Pennsylvania

The acquisition has no impact on Kauffman's wholesale distribution network throughout Northern Ohio, Bob Sumerel Tire said.

Along with the acquisition, Bob Sumerel Tire is planning to add a sixth Bandag system retread plant at Kauffman Tire's outlet in Wooster. According to the firm, the facility will add 150 units per day in truck tire retread production.

Bob Sumerel Tire said the acquisition will add to its servicing geographical footprint already in place for fleets in Kentucky, Ohio, Western Pennsylvania, Indiana and West Virginia.

The acquisition will add approximately 70 employees to Bob Sumerel Tire's payroll.
