ATLANTA (April 10, 2014) — Lehigh Technologies Inc., a manufacturer of micronized recycled rubber powders, and Rheopave Technologies L.L.C., a producer of asphalt additive technologies, are partnering to create a technology they say will reduce the cost, boost the performance and improve the sustainability of modified asphalt systems.
The new product line combines Lehigh's MicroDyne micronized rubber powders (MRPs) with Rheopave's suspension additives, according to a Lehigh press release. Lehigh will provide sales, supply chain and distribution support through its existing network alongside its MicroDyne products, and Rheopave will provide technical support through AWI, its affiliated laboratory.
Pat Keating and Prem Naidoo, co-owners of Rheopave, developed their patented composite technology specifically to enhance the performance of rubber powders in rubber-modified asphalt, Lehigh said. Extended testing by independent laboratories demonstrated that the combination of MicroDyne MRPs with Rheopave technology provides superior performance characteristics in rubberized asphalt, the company said.
MicroDyne MRPs and Rheopave's binders have been approved for use in hot-mix asphalt paving applications by the Florida Department of Transportation and other state agencies, according to Lehigh.
