BETHESDA, Md. (April 8, 2014) — Governors in 10 U.S. states have signed proclamations declaring April as “Car Care Month.”
According to the Car Care Council (CCC), the governors are Robert Bentley of Alabama; John Hickenlooper of Colorado; Pat Quinn of Illinois; Rick Snyder of Michigan; Susana Martinez of New Mexico; John A. Kitzhaber of Oregon; Nikki R. Haley of South Carolina; Bill Haslam of Tennessee; Peter Shumlin of Vermont; and Earl Ray Tomblin of West Virginia.
In issuing the proclamations, the governors urged the residents of their states to be “car care aware” and perform services necessary to ensure their vehicles are operating in a safe, efficient and clean manner, the non-profit Car Care Council said.
“Car Care Month provides a unique opportunity for the auto care industry and the government to educate car owners on the importance of proper vehicle care,” said Rich White, the council's executive director.
The CCC offers a number of free tools on its website to help motorists drive smart, save money and be more environmentally friendly, the council said. During April, thousands of independent repair shops and community organizations across the U.S. will conduct car care events during April, it said.
“These events have revealed that three out of four vehicles inspected are in need of some type of maintenance or repair,” the CCC said.
