The last Falken tire gets put in place for Tire Discounters' record attempt for the world's tallest tire pile. Unofficially, the dealership said it beat the previous record.

CINCINNATI (April 2 2014) — There are tire stacks, and then there are really tall stacks of tires. Just ask Tire Discounters Inc.

On March 27 the Cincinnati-based dealership unofficially broke the world record for the tallest tire stack with a single column of Falken-brand tires that reached 19.95 feet, with the measurements confirmed by an independent surveyor.

The previous tire stacking world record of 19.77 was set on Sept. 6, 2009, in Wiesental, Germany.

In partnership with Falken Tire Corp., family-owned and -operated Tire Discounters attempted the record to celebrate the grand re-opening of its first store on Wooster Pike in Cincinnati. The company said it has applied for the record with Guinness World Records, but has not officially broken the record until Guinness finalizes the process.

Prior to the record-breaking attempt, Tire Discounters Chairman and Founder Chip Wood said that with the tire-stacking event the dealership planned “to show customers the great lengths that we're willing to go to in celebrating our history and earning their business.

“And by lengths, we mean heights. We're very excited to break the record for the tallest tire tower, right here at the location where we opened our first store.”

For his company's part in the tire tower, Falken Tire President and CEO Richard Smallwood said the tire marketer was “thrilled with this partnership with Tire Discounters and really anxious to see how high they can stack tires. We never imagined that they'd be using our Falken tries to break a world record.”

Mr. Wood first opened the first Tire Discounters store in 1976 in a cement block building with one bay and a pickup truck loaded with tires. Since then the dealership has grown to 91 locations, offers vehicle maintenance and services as well as tires, and has locations in three states. It has plans to open stores in Nashville, Tenn., this year and a total of a dozen or more outlets over the next 12 months.

“The re-opening of this store is symbolic for our company,” Mr. Wood said. “We've always emphasized our goal to exceed customer expectations—a guarantee that started at this location 37 years ago. Now our first location has been updated to feature some of the most modern amenities in our industry, allowing our customers to visit for service and feel really good about choosing us to maintain their vehicles.”

As with the Wooster Pike store, the company is introducing across all its locations the new store design, which includes a more energy-efficient building, an expanded showroom, a children's play area, free Wi-Fi and a more comfortable waiting area—all designed to improve the customer experience, it said.
