MEMPHIS, Tenn. (March 27, 2014) — Del-Nat Tire Corp. reported that through its recycling program, the company helped save the equivalent of 204 trees, 40 cubic yards of landfill space and 84,000 gallons of water in 2013.
A sustainability report from Recycle Solutions, one of the largest recycling companies in the Southeast U.S., showed Del-Nat recycled 12 tons of paper and one ton of plastic from Jan. 1 through Dec. 31 last year. The firm's recycling efforts also saved the equivalent of 4,565 gallons of oil, 98 million BTUs of energy and 53,774 kilowatt hours of energy, the report said.
Del-Nat has maintained its recycling program since 2009, when the company was spending more than $10,000 a year to have trash removed. The Memphis-based company contacted Recycle Solutions to help develop a long-term recycling plan in an effort to achieve near zero-waste operation.
Recycle Solutions developed a new process that allowed trash to be efficiently sorted, moved and recycled without forcing Del-Nat to commit additional resources, the dealer group said.
