FULLERTON, Calif. (March 26, 2014) — Yokohama Tire Corp. has expanded its winter tire lineup with the introduction of the iceGuard iG52c, now available in the U.S. in 39 sizes.
The new tire replaces the iceGuard iG20 and offers improvements in several areas, Yokohama said, including ice traction, snow traction and durability.
Features of the tire, according to Yokohama, include a triple-action compound designed to adapt to different weather conditions, via a proprietary carbon/silica construction; high density molecular configuration, combined with flexible polymer for stability and even wear; an extra-wide center rib and large control blocks for stability in all weather conditions; circumferential power grooves for water evacuation; a directional tread pattern; and triple 3D sipes for enhanced block rigidity and traction.
“The iceGuard iG52c is extremely versatile for one of the most unpredictable seasons,” said Andrew Briggs, Yokohama director, marketing and product planning. “Our engineers developed a tread compound with aggressive grip and confident handling on both slick roads and dry pavement, so drivers can take on any winter condition.”
The company did not disclose the sizes available, but said they fit a range of vehicles from Toyota Prius to Mercedes C Class.
The iceGuard iG52c was offered in Canada this past winter, according to information on Yokohama's Canadian website.
