WEIRTON, W. Va. (March 19, 2014) — The United Steelworkers of America (USW) union gave Sen. Jay Rockefeller, D-W. Va., its lifetime achievement award at a March 17 ceremony in Weirton, a longtime steel manufacturing center.
Sen. Rockefeller was honored for his staunch support of the West Virginia steel industry and its workers during his 50-year legislative career, the USW said. The senator also received the “Man of Steel” award from the Cold Finished Steel Bar Institute during the ceremony.
Sen. Sherrod Brown, D-Ohio, attended the ceremony. He will head the Congressional Steel Caucus after Sen. Rockefeller's retirement in 2014, the USW said.
“Sen. Rockefeller has always been there for the Steelworkers, and we will never forget his passion and dedication to working people,” said USW International President Leo W. Gerard.
