INDIANAPOLIS (March 10, 2014) — Continental Tire the Americas L.L.C. previewed its Conti TerraPlus HD3 on/off-road drive tire for Class 4 and 5 trucks during the National Truck Equipment Association's Work Truck Show, which was held March 5-7, in Indianapolis.

The Conti TerraPlus HD3 (Heavy Drive 3rd Generation)—on display in the Continental Commercial Vehicle Tire booth at the show in size 225/70R19.5—will hit the market in May, the tire maker said.

The tire features a high-traction, deep-lug tread pattern and chip- and chunk-resistant tread compound for working heavy-duty pickups, landscaping trucks, utility trucks and other vocational trucks that frequently work in off-road conditions, according to Conti.

“Our new Conti TerraPlus HD3 was designed specifically for working trucks and heavy pickups which, due to the terrain, demand improved traction and a more aggressive lug pattern than the typical 19.5-inch tire provides,” said Wes Garber, director of original equipment sales for Continental's Commercial Vehicle Tire group.

Conti said the product has the potential to be the first tire to reach the market as a specialized off-road, high traction drive product for 19.5-inch sizes, with 19/32nd-inch tread depth and a specialized pattern with open shoulder design to increase traction. An off-road belt package makes the tire more suited to the severe service, off road environments and more resistant to damage such as stone penetration, according to the company.
