STOW, Ohio (March 3, 2014) — Mickey Thompson Performance Tires & Wheels' new Deegan 38 light truck tire is scheduled for availability in dealer showrooms in April.
The tire, being marketed by Stow-based Max-Trac Tire Co. Inc., which does business as Mickey Thompson, was rolled out at last fall's Specialty Equipment Market Association (SEMA) Show in Las Vegas. It was developed with five-time Lucas Oil Off Road Racing Series (LOORRS) champion and 16-time X Games medalist Brian Deegan.
The company described the Deegan 38 as "the ultimate mud-terrain tire delivering aggressive performance, respectable street manners and impressive style."
Ken Warner, vice president of marketing for Mickey Thompson, said the company "worked with a champion competitor to develop a new product with trusted Mickey Thompson quality and performance. The Deegan 38 offers a truly unique mud terrain tire with long tread life, versatility and rugged appearance for demanding enthusiasts."
The tread features a beveled tread edge that enhances self cleaning and lug integrity, according to the private brander, along with special wide lateral and offset grooves that channel water away to handle mud and rocky terrain; large center tread elements to deliver better grip, even wear and a quieter ride; and stone ejector ribs designed to resist dirt and mud.
The tire's shoulder features Mickey Thompson's SideBiters and shoulder scallops to guide mud and loose soil away from the tread. An enhanced sidewall design includes high tensile body ply cord for increased sidewall integrity, reduced rolling resistance and heat buildup. The tire's sidewall depicts a Deegan 38 shield and raised white or black lettering.
The Deegan 38 will be available in 13 popular sizes, according to Mickey Thompson, a unit of Findlay, Ohio-based Cooper Tire & Rubber Co.
