Michelin unveils SmartWay-verified steer tire

GREENVILLE, S.C. (Feb. 18, 2014) —Michelin North America Inc. has unveiled its Michelin X Multi Energy Z regional steer tire that meets U.S. Environmental Protection Agency SmartWay-verified requirements.

Michelin said the tire, available March 1 in the U.S. and Canada, offers reduced rolling resistance, longevity and a high degree of overall durability for regional and super-regional fleets.

The tire's target segments are the regional operators needing SmartWay verification and line-haul operators involved in the super-regional segment—such as parcel, dry van LTL, food & beverage, and pickup & delivery.

The tire features a dual compound tread consisting of a wear-resistant layer and a durability layer that cools the casing for longer life and reduces rolling resistance. The tread sculpture with inter-locking Matrix sipes distributes force for more even wear and curb guards to extend casing life, the tire maker said.

"When combined with the Michelin X Multi Energy D drive tire, the Michelin X Multi Energy Z provides a complete SmartWay regional solution."

The Michelin X Multi Energy Z tire will be available in three sizes: 11R22.5 LRG, 11R22.5 LRH and 275/80R22.5 LRH.
