WASHINGTON (Feb. 14, 2014) — The Motor & Equipment Association (MEMA) is supporting a bill introduced into the U.S. House of Representatives that would encourage civilian federal fleet managers to use remanufactured auto parts wherever possible.
H.R. 4056 — also called “The Federal Vehicle Repair Cost Savings Act of 2014” — was introduced Feb. 11 by Reps. Gary Peters, D-Mich., and James Lankford, R-Okla. The bill was assigned to the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform, which has yet to schedule a hearing.
The text of H.R. 4056 is not yet available from THOMAS, the congressional legislative website. However, MEMA describes the bill as ordering federal fleet managers to prioritize the use of remanufactured parts in fleet maintenance, stressing the environmental, economic and product performance advantages of using them.
“Remanufacturing is sustainable manufacturing,” said John Chalfoux, president and COO of the Motor & Equipment Remanufacturers Association, a division of MEMA. “With this legislation, our country is well positioned to take full advantage of the quality, value and sustainability benefits associated with remanufactured goods.”
