TOLEDO, Ohio (Feb. 10, 2014) — Goodyear has opened four Goodyear Auto Service Centers in the Toledo area.

The outlets are converted Tom's Tire retail stores the tire maker acquired in January from Toledo-based wholesaler, retailer and commercial dealer Capital Tire Group.

The stores — three in Toledo and one in Perrysburg, Ohio — are Goodyear's first company-owned retail outlets in this northwest Ohio market.

Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed. Goodyear said it offered the stores' 30 employees the opportunity to continue under its ownership.

Capital Tire continues to operate five Tom's Tire retail stores in the same area along with six commercial locations in western Ohio and eastern Indiana and nine warehouses in Indiana, Michigan and Indiana.

With this acquisition Goodyear said it is "taking further steps to provide what consumers want from a professional tire and automotive service retailer. Consumers want brand and product choices, a clean and inviting store, and a low-pressure shopping experience with an emphasis on customer service."

The Akron-based tire maker is planning to modernize the stores and expand the staffing at the stores, which were "already known for delivering great customer service in this market," said Adam Pusateri, district manager, Goodyear Retail. The outlets sell Goodyear, Dunlop and Kelly tires and provide a range of automotive services for cars, pickups, vans and sport-utility vehicles.

"Goodyear is committed to expanding our retail store format, and the acquisition of these locations is in line with that growth strategy," said John Peer, vice president, Goodyear Retail.

The company operates 616 retail stores across the U.S., including 92 in the Just Tires format.
