MOORESVILLE, N.C. (Jan. 16, 2014) — The CARS X-1R Pro Cup Series for late-model stock cars has selected Specialty Tires of America/American Racer as the series' official race tire supplier, replacing Goodyear, which decided to eliminate production of tires suitable for the series, according to the series' organizer.

Series Owner/President Jack McNelly lauded American Racer for its off-season testing, calling the tire designated for the Pro Cup a "good, fast tire that performed very well in testing in both overall grip and durability."

Scott Junod, Director of Racing for American Racer, said the Pro Cup Series "couldn't be a more perfect fit for us going forward."

Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.

MTP Tire & Racing Center L.L.C., owned and operated by Hickory Motor Speedway promoter Kevin Pirecy, will continue to be the exclusive tire supplier and trackside service company of the X-1R Pro Cup Series, Pro Cup said.

The 2014 CARS Pro Cup Series will comprise 12 events at 10 different tracks, starting March 22 at Montgomery Motor Speedway in Montgomery, Ala., and concluding Oct. 18 at Hickory Motor Speedway in Hickory, N.C.

This will the short-track racing series' 18th year of competition. It started out in 1997 as the USAR Hooters Pro Cup Series, then morphed into USARacing Pro Cup Series in 2009, CARS Pro Cup Series in 2012 and then Rev-Oil Pro Cup Series last year. X-1R Corp., a producer of automotive performance lubricants, took over series' sponsorship for this season
