BOWIE, Md. (Jan. 15, 2014) — The Tire Industry Association (TIA) trained more than 8,000 tire technicians and instructors in 2013 through its proprietary training programs, the association reported.
The figure includes all those formally trained through TIA programs in automotive, commercial, farm and earthmover tire service, according to the Bowie-based trade group.
“We trained an average of 22 tire personnel every day, which is a pretty amazing statistic when you consider the fact that we have only two full-time trainers on staff,” said Kevin Rohlwing, TIA senior vice president of training.
Since TIA began its training programs in 1997, the association has trained and/or certified some 85,000 instructors and technicians, it said. That figure does not include the thousands of workers who have completed TIA training programs through the intranet of TIA member companies, TIA said.
TIA's certified instructor and technician training programs are completed through classroom and hands-on instruction, while basic technician training can be accomplished either through a standard workbook-video format or through TIA's Online University, the association said.
