FORT MILL, S.C. (Dec. 19, 2013) — Continental Tire the Americas L.L.C. has added a retreaded version of its HTL1 wide-based single truck tire to its portfolio and disclosed its HDR2 Eco Plus drive tire has received EPA SmartWay status as a fuel-efficient component.
Wide-base singles like HTL1 (Heavy Trailer Long Haul) are used increasingly in liquid- and dry-bulk-hauling applications where weight is a concern, Conti said, or by fleets seeking to take advantage of weight savings for greater fuel efficiency by reducing the number of wheel and rim assemblies.
The HTL1 retread will be available through Conti's network of ContiLifeCycle-licensed retreaders. The tire is available in two sizes—445/50R22.5 and 455/55R22.5—for drive or trailer applications, Conti said. They feature a 13/32-inch tread depth and a fuel-efficient rib pattern.
“This…is a great addition to our retread business, because it allows us to offer even more retreads to fleets (that) have a specific application or operating concern,” said Scott Snyder, vice president and general manager of DLS Retreading Inc., a ContiTread licensee in Fort Mill, S.C.
The HDR2 Eco Plus features a 30/32-inch tread depth, an open shoulder design for traction without sacrificing even wear and delivers roughly 20-percent less rolling resistance in regional applications than the HDR2. The tire is available in sizes 11R22.5 and 295/75R22.5.
The HDR2 Eco Plus is the 21st Continental new and retreaded truck tire product listed as verified by SmartWay, Conti said, and the HTL1 ContiTread will be submitted to SmartWay for verification.
