BOWIE, Md. (Dec. 19, 2013) — Michelin North America Inc. and the Tire Industry Association (TIA) have set Jan. 13, 2014, as the deadline for applications for the 2014 Michelin/Tire Industry Association Scholarships.

The Michelin/TIA Scholarship Program is open to part-time employees of TIA-member tire dealers, and also to dependent children of full-time employees, according to TIA.

Scholarship winners are announced at TIA's annual meeting, held prior to the Specialty Equipment Market Association Show in Las Vegas in early November.

Michelin and TIA selected three students this year — two of whom are daughters of TIA member company personnel and one who worked for a TIA member company — to receive academic scholarships totaling $6,250.

Applicants must be high-school seniors planning to enter a two-year or four-year college, university or vocational technical school, TIA said. They must have cumulative grade-point averages of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale. Employees and dependent children of TIA or Michelin North America Inc. are not eligible for the scholarships.

Academic achievement, extracurricular activities and community leadership qualities are the criteria by which applicants are judged, TIA said. Once granted, the scholarship may be renewed for up to a total of four years.

Since the program's inception in 2000, it has awarded more than $250,000 in scholarship money to qualified students, said TIA Executive Vice President Roy Littlefield.

Qualified applicants may apply online at the program's website. For further information, they may contact Ashley Sweatt at 864-268-3363.
