BOWIE, Md. (Nov. 27, 2013) — Jim "The Rookie" Morris is slated to be the motivational speaker for the Tire Industry Association's (TIA) 2014 OTR Conference.
Mr. Morris will deliver his motivational talk, sponsored by BKT Tires USA Inc., on Friday, Feb. 21 during the conference, which will be held Feb. 19-22 at the Marco Island Marriott Resort & Golf Club in Marco Island, Fla.
Mr. Morris' life story was the inspiration behind the 2002 Walt Disney film "The Rookie," starring Dennis Quaid. To motivate his rag-tag high school baseball team, the then-35-year-old schoolteacher made a bet that he would try out for the big leagues if his team won a district championship. When Mr. Morris' team won, he followed through on his promise, going to a tryout where he threw 12 consecutive pitches at 98 mph. Three months later, he achieved his dream of pitching in "the big show."
"We are excited to hear Jim's inspirational story and what he has accomplished," said TIA Executive Vice President Roy Littlefield. "Although his story takes place on a baseball diamond, we can all relate to fulfilling goals and dreams in our businesses and our lives. OTR conference attendees are in for a real treat,"
TIA said conference registration forms may be downloaded from the association's website.
Due to overwhelming response to the 2014 conference, TIA said its room block is currently sold out. However, the trade group suggested interested participants contact the hotel at 1-800-438-4373 and mention the TIA/OTR Conference so they can be put on a waiting list.
TIA anticipates rooms will become available in the next few weeks. For more information on overflow hotel options, contact LaKisha Pindell, TIA director of meetings, at [email protected] or 301-430-7280 ext. 104.
