ELGIN, Ill. (Nov. 26, 2013) — SKF Vehicle Service Market (VSM) North America, working with the family of late SKF President Mike McGrath, has established a memorial fund to honor his legacy.
Mr. McGrath died died Oct. 11.
The Michael McGrath Sr. Memorial Fund will benefit the Community Crisis Center in Elgin where Mr. McGrath was a long-time supporter and frequent volunteer, SKF said. The crisis center aids Chicago-area individuals and families who are victims of domestic violence and abuse, sexual assault, or have financial difficulties that have led to homelessness and despair, according to the company.
"Mike visited the crisis center on a number of occasions to interact with those who just needed a friend to talk to," said Kenyatta Matlock, a crisis center volunteer and manager at SKF. "Mike would often cook dinner for the residents and made an effort to talk to each woman and child to offer words of encouragement during some of the toughest times."
The center provides a safe haven for many women and children in need, SKF said, "but sadly, it cannot accommodate all those seeking help. The Michael McGrath Sr. Memorial Fund will help provide housing and day care assistance for those in need and may support the purchase of an additional multi-unit residence in the Elgin area."
SKF said contributions can be made online through the website http://www.cct.org of Chicago Community Trust (CCT), a non-profit organization providing fund administration. To donate, click "Give" at the top of the page, then "Give online" on the left menu bar, then follow down the list and click on the "Michael McGrath Sr. Memorial Fund." A confirmation email will be sent upon receipt of any donation made to the fund.
