COLCHESTER, Vt. (Nov. 18, 2013) — Nokian Tyres P.L.C.'s Heavy Tyres division has launched a skidder tire designed "for the challenging conditions" in the U.S. and Canada.
The new 26-ply Forest King TRS LS-2 is being offered in size 35.5L-32.
Nokian said it has seen significant growth in its business in North America over the last few years.
"As we expand our business in the United States and Canada, we are in the process of adding sizes that are important to that marketplace," said Vesa Sampakoski, director of marketing for Nokian Heavy Tyres. "The 35.5L-32 skidder tire is an important size in the forestry industry and we are thrilled to add this size to our product mix."
The tire maker has 35 years' experience in forestry compound development and, it said, "used that expertise to create (its) most cut- and crack-resistant forestry compound for the tread surface and sidewalls of this new tire." It features four wide breakers under the tread area and tire shoulder to provide "great protection" against accidental punctures.
The new tire also has a specially designed tread pattern for increased lateral grip and self-cleaning. Special tire protectors on the tread groove bottom and the tire's wide lug edge help to resist chain tearing, according to Nokian.
The tire also has significantly improved rim protections, the company added, and a new design that prevents wood from penetrating between the tire bead and rim flange.
Nokian said its skidder tire sizes include: 23.1-26 16 ply; 28L-26 26 ply; 24.5-32 16 ply; 30.5L-32 in 20 and 26 ply; and 35.5L-32 26 ply.
