FINDLAY, Ohio (Nov. 8, 2013) — To meet winter driving requirements, Cooper Tire & Rubber Co. has added three winter performance tires to its lineup for retailers in North America.
Ready for the snow are the WM-SA2, Weather-Master Snow and Discoverer M+S Sport. Findlay-based Cooper said the tires suit a wide range of vehicles ranging from performance passenger car to sport-utility applications. The tires make their debut with a total of 28 sizes.
Scott Jamieson, Cooper Tire's director of product management, said "thanks to a more comprehensive winter tire lineup, consumers now have more choices when it comes to their winter tire options and their specific winter driving environment, whether on snow covered roads or cold wet highways.
"Winter tires are the right choice for consumers who drive in temperatures below 45 degrees (7 degrees Celsius), by delivering better stopping grip than conventional all-season tires, with or without snow."
The WM-SA2 is Cooper's studless performance touring winter tire designed for coupes and midsize sedans. It features a "performance-enhancing" directional tread pattern to deliver added grip in snow, slush, cold and wet conditions, and is designed with a tapered alternating groove technology to enhance braking and improve traction.
The Weather-Master Snow is Cooper's high-performance, studless asymmetric tire, "offering improved grip thanks to a special silica-rich compound tuned for winter's cold temperatures and provides first-rate braking performance on slippery surfaces," the tire maker said. This tire is available for H/V speed ratings to provide performance vehicles with advanced performance handling and is marked with the severe snow symbol.
The Discoverer M+S Sport is a premium studless winter tire "designed for drivers looking for excellent traction on snow and ice," according to Cooper, which noted the tire offers "sophisticated snow groove technology." The M+S Sport's tread design also incorporates biting edges to offer enhanced grip. It is available in T, H and V speed ratings to cover 16- to 19-inch rim diameters and is suited for CUVs, SUVs and performance-geared SUVs.
