FAIRFIELD, N.J. (Oct. 30, 2013) — Max Finkelstein Inc. (MFI) recently opened its 10th distribution center, in Fairfield, and is preparing to open an 11th, in Rochester, N.Y.

The new location is an 80,000-sq.-ft. leased building. Zach Silver, MFI's sales director for the region, said the wholesaler sees "the business evolving in a service-centric way. To capitalize on this, and outpace our competition, we need to get closer to the customer and provide them with the service they require.

"This (Fairfield) warehouse will enable us to do that in one of the denser areas of our territory."

Another company executive, Howard Rosenthal, told Tire Business the company actually did a "soft opening" recently of an 11th location, in Rochester, N.Y., which MFI plans to officially open in November. "We are continually scouting strategic locations which will enhance our customer service," he added.

Family-owned MFI began in 1919 in Long Island City, N.Y. The company distributes Goodyear, Dunlop, Kelly, Pirelli, Kumho, Aeolus, Goodride and Carlisle products to tire dealers throughout the Northeast.

In addition to the Fairfield distribution center, the company operates warehouses in Long Island City, Ronkonkoma, Croton on Hudson and Binghamton, N.Y.; Dayton, N.J.; South Windsor, Conn.; Lewiston, Maine; Randolph Center, Vermont; and Reading, Pa.

Company operations are overseen by Ira Silver, MFI's chief operating officer.
