MILTON, Ontario—MAACO Franchising Inc., a Driven Brands Inc. unit, has acquired the Canadian master franchisor rights for the MAACO car care center brand, laying the foundation for a plan to double the number of Maaco and Meineke Car Care Center locations in Canada within three years.

Driven Brands acquired the rights from Gary Dohring, who had controlled them for the past 13 years, serving as president and CEO of MAACO Systems Canada. Financial terms were not disclosed.

There are 26 MAACO locations in Canada, according to Driven Brands, which has controlled the MAACO brand since October 2008.

“We are really excited for the opportunity to build on (Mr. Dohring's) success and further grow the brand in Canada,” said MAACO President Jose Costa. “This transaction is a testament to the belief that the MAACO team has in terms of our future vision and growth opportunities.”

Charlotte, N.C.-based Driven Brands/MAACO plans to grow in Canada both by recruiting new franchisees and working with existing franchisees to open new locations, the firm said.

Mr. Doh-ring said he was “proud and fortunate” to have been part of the MAACO system for the past dec-ade, and said he is leaving with the knowledge that MAACO has a “terrific team and culture in place, and strong leadership at the corporate level....”

Driven Brands' Meineke Car Care Centers brand has 35 franchised locations in Canada, predominantly in Ontario. Recently Duane Arbeau, Meineke Canada vice president and general manager, said Meineke intends to open 75 new locations across Canada in the coming five years.
