ASHEBORO, N.C.Dealer Strategic Planning Inc. (DSP) has declared its inaugural 20 group for multi-store owners a success, and said it intends to open another multi-store group in early 2014.
The group met for the first time Sept. 30-Oct. 2 in Asheboro, DSP said, and was hosted by Sally Thomas-Cox and Bryan Thomas of Thomas Tire & Automotive. The dealership focuses on retail, commercial and wholesale sales at its four locations in the Asheboro area.
DSP said the first meeting adhered to a typical 20 group format with 21/2 days of best-practice sharing, financial benchmarking, host dealer visit and discussions among the participants to help solve business challenges for multi-store owners.
In order to belong to a multi-store group, a dealer must have at least three outlets, DSP said. This latest group comprised nearly 190 locationswith dealers from California, Florida, Georgia, Hawaii, Illinois, Massachusetts, Mississippi, Ohio, Oklahoma, New Jersey, North Dakota and Virginia participating.
Peter Greenberg, of Springfield, Mass.-based City Tire Co., which has 11 locations, said he was happy with his first experience with the DSP 20 group.
Two thumbs up for the inaugural meeting of DSP's Group 600 for multi-store tire and automotive service business owners in Asheboro, he said in a DSP press release. The environment that was created to allow for the free exchange of best practices and winning ideas that improve profitability and productivity was unprecedented.
The takeaways have already positively impacted our business.
Craig Tate, co-owner of Tate Boys Tire & Service in Bartlesville, Okla., said he walked away from the meeting impressed with the professionalism of the facilitators along with the other members of the group.
The collective experience in that room was staggering, he added.
We enjoyed the executive discussion and the chance to hear how some of the most dominant players in our industry tackle the same challenges that we face. We are excited to have the opportunity to put into practice in our own business some of the best practice advice we gathered from the meetings, and expect that we will see great results in the coming months.
An unexpected bonus we enjoyed were the friendships we formed with some of the other business owners.
