LONG BEACH, Calif. (Oct. 21, 2013) — Performance Plus Tire and Auto Superstore is hosting its 16th annual Thanksgiving food drive.
The Long Beach-based dealership said the food drive started out as a joint project with a Cub Scout troop 16 years ago and has become a company sponsored event that fed over 950 families last year. This year's goal is to feed 1,000 families.
The food will be packed into boxes at the "Hot Rod Happening" at Performance Plus Tire on Nov. 24 from 8 a.m.-12 p.m. Performance Plus Tire said non-perishable food and cash donations may also be dropped off prior to the event. The drive supports local needy families pre-selected by local schools and charities. Items will be delivered to homes on the day before Thanksgiving.
Performance Pluse is inviting the local community to attend its sixth annual "Hot Rod Happening" and the annual food drive and help sort and pack food for the drive. The event will include live entertainment and a car show highlighting vintage and custom cars.
This year Performance Plus has added an incentive for the community—what it's calling the "2013 Great Home Entertainment Giveaway Drawing." The company said the community may purchase a raffle ticket for $1 each, with all of the proceeds from the raffle tickets going toward the purchase of food for the food drive. On Nov. 24 the winning ticket will be drawn and the winner will receive a Sharp 70-inch LED smart 3D TV, a Sony Blu-Ray Disc/DVD Home Theater System and a JVS High Definition Camcorder Kit.
