Hybrid Shop partners with Monro

GAINESVILLE, Va. (Oct. 4, 2013) — The Hybrid Shop (THS), a network of hybrid vehicle service centers, is partnering with Monro Muffler Brake Inc. to incorporate THS service centers in four Monro outlets in the Washington, D.C., metropolitan area.

The deal comes less than two months after Monro announced it would acquire Gainesville-based Curry's Auto Service Inc.'s 10 stores in the D.C. area. Prior to the deal, which was expected to close in August, Curry's Auto was owned by THS co-founder and CEO Matt Curry.

THS, which launched last spring, is the first and only enterprise of its kind, the company said: a partnership of automotive experts, who have pioneered a means to condition hybrid vehicle battery packs, restoring them to up to 95 percent of their original power and energy. Mr. Curry told Tire Business earlier in 2013 that he envisioned the new business—a joint venture between Curry's Auto and Automotive Research and Design L.L.C.—as a "factional franchise" program, giving dealers new hybrid vehicle-related revenue streams, such as battery conditioning and rebuilding; motor-generator testing, diagnosis and replacement; power inverter and control system testing; and other maintenance services.

Through implementing THS' services, Monro now offers hybrid-electric vehicle care and services, giving owners of these types of vehicles an alternative to purchasing new, costly replacement batteries.

"We are excited that Monro is on board with our unique vision of technically validated hybrid vehicle care and that THS services will be available to customers at four of its locations here in the D.C. metro region," Mr. Curry said.

"This partnership will allow us to extend our service offerings and the value we bring to hybrid customers across the D.C. area, provide them with a green alternative and allow them to experience the highest performance and efficiency from their vehicles and existing batteries."

THS will be presenting its hybrid battery pack conditioning service at the 2013 Specialty Equipment Market Association Show, taking place Nov. 5-8 at the Las Vegas Convention Center. The company will exhibit in booth 10167 in the North Hall.
