MIAMI (Oct. 3, 2013) — Wholesale distributor Tire Group International L.L.C. (TGI) team members will be wearing a pink ribbon and a pink T-shirt every Friday during October to support Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
TGI said it changed its official colors to pink from gray for October, including building decorations, website and social media posts, and is encouraging customers to donate to the Susan G. Komen for the Cure foundation.
According to Komen foundation statistics, breast cancer is the most common cancer in women worldwide. It is estimated that more than 1.6 million new cases of breast cancer occurred among women worldwide in 2010. They also found that rates of breast cancer around the world vary a great deal. In general, developed countries—such as the U.S., England and Australia—have higher rates than developing countries such as Cambodia, Nepal and Rwanda.
"This is a great cause and we wouldn't want to miss an opportunity to help our community," said Joaquin Gonzalez Jr., chief marketing executive for Miami-based TGI. "We believe that incorporating our Happiness Campaign with this great cause is a perfect way to encourage men and women not to be afraid to get mammograms and breast exams frequently."
He added that TGI hopes "greater knowledge will lead to earlier detection of breast cancer, which is associated with higher long-term survival rates" and "money raised for breast cancer will produce a reliable, permanent cure."
TGI said it also hopes the money raised for breast cancer will lead to a reliable and permanent cure.
