Hello, I'm Kathy McCarron. Welcome to Tire Business NewsPoint, your video source for exclusive tire industry news.
About 300 million scrap tires are generated annually in the U.S. with 80 percent of them recycled or reused. Tire-derived fuel is the biggest market for scrap tires but tire-modified asphalt producers are trying to gain acceptance as a viable market. Rubberized asphalt is used on roads in 5 states and another 5 states are testing the material.
Tire Business Reporter Kathy McCarron recently attended Recycle Akron, a rubberized asphalt forum for tire recyclers, state officials and engineers, where she spoke with Dick Gust, president of national accounts for Liberty Tire Recycling, about the prospects for rubberized asphalt and the scrap tire market in general.
