STOKE-ON-TRENT, England (Sept. 6, 2013) — Group Michelin has launched an online tire pressure calculator for British farmers and contractors to calculate optimum tire pressures for their tractors, harvesters, sprayers and trailers.
Michelin said it developed the tool to help farm machinery operators get the maximum performance out of their tires. The free calculator does this by ensuring pressures can be tailored to "deliver the maximum soil protection for particular machine and application, supporting every farmer's desire for a high-quality harvest and long-term productivity," the French tire maker said.
Mike Lawton, commercial director of Michelin's agricultural tire division in the United Kingdom and Ireland, said that "everywhere in Europe, farm machines must be adaptable. Throughout the crop cycle, they have to operate with different attachments and trailers under weights and conditions of use that differ considerably from one season to another. It is little wonder, therefore, that tire pressures can vary significantly depending on the type of use or configuration.
"Our new online tire pressure calculator allows farmers and contractors to run as many different configurations as they like, to generate bespoke pressures for every aspect of their work. It only takes a few seconds to use, but we are confident it will prove invaluable in increasing productivity while protecting the soil."
To use the free online tire calculator, Michelin said users are required to select their machine or equipment type, which includes entering specifics such as axle weights (where known) or hopper sizes. Users can then choose the name of their Michelin tire range and the speed at which they work to obtain the ideal tire pressures.
The calculator—available at www.michelin-agricultural-tires.co.uk—also enables farmers to save their user profile and machinery configurations for future reference, according to the tire maker.
