WASHINGTON (Sept. 3, 2013) — The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has declared moot a Goodyear petition for inconsequential noncompliance involving 1,692 mismarked Goodyear Wrangler AT/S tires.
Goodyear manufactured the tires, all size LT 275/65R18, at its Gadsden, Ala., plant between April 8 and May 12, 2012. The company asked NHTSA for a finding of inconsequential noncompliance because the tires were labeled ""LR-E Max Load 3415 lbs Max Pressure 80 psi" instead of the correct "LR-C Max Load 2535 lbs Max Pressure 50 psi."
In a subsequent filing, however, Goodyear said it believed its original petition was in error, and that a noncompliance with federal tire safety standards did not exist. NHTSA agreed, and issued the ruling of mootness in the Sept. 3 Federal Register.
