RANCHO CUCAMONGA, Calif. (Aug. 19, 2013) — Falken Tire Corp. has partnered with Import Tuner magazine for a five-day "Ecorun Trip" that begins today to visit destinations chosen by Falken Tire's Facebook fans.
Falken and Import Tuner modified a 1993 Honda Civic VX (VTEC-E) and equipped it with low-rolling-resistance Falken ZIEX ZE-914 Ecorun tires to improve the vehicle's fuel efficiency, Falken said.
Modifications were made to the engine, suspension, aero and tuning, Falken said, in addition to trimming the weight. The outcome is a lower coefficient of drag to create significant MPG improvements, the event sponsors said. Fuel efficiency is expected to reach an average of 60 MPG, an increase of more than 20 percent.
"The premise, and ultimate success, of the Ecorun Trip is integrating the power of social media and our ZIEX ZE-914 tire into both a fun event and a great study in fuel efficiency," said Andrew Hoit, Falken's vice president of marketing.
"I look forward to seeing the input from our fans on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram—to help guide the Civic around the South and Northwest. We also anticipate our ZE-914 Ecorun tire will gain a fair amount of notice in the process."
Falken's hashtag for the event is #ecoruntrip.
The ZIEX ZE-914 Ecorun is a hybrid vehicle tire with a low rolling resistance compound, asymmetric tread pattern with four straight wide circumferential grooves for hydroplane resistance, along with a dual high rigidity rib construction.
