DENVER (July 29, 2012) — The Tire Society has selected Hans Pacejka, the Dutch engineer credited with developing the tire design model that is the basis of much of today's computer tire modelling, as the 2013 recipient of the society's Distinguished Technical Achievement Award.
Mr. Pacejka, who worked for much of his career at Delft University of Technology in Delft, Netherlands,
The society said the biennial award honors an individual who has made “substantial contributions” to the science and technology of tires. Mr. Pacejka will receive the honor at this fall's annual meeting in Akron Sept. 10.
He is perhaps best known for the so-called “magic formula” he developed in 1987 in conjunction with Volvo Car to describe measured tire behavior for the purpose of vehicle dynamics modeling, the Tire Society said.
