WASHINGTON (July 29, 2013) — U.S. Sen. Sherrod Brown, D-Ohio, met with senior management from India's Apollo Tyres Ltd. last week to urge them to protect Ohio workers and jobs.
Mr. Brown met July 25 at his office in Washington with Apollo CEO Onkar Kanwar and Neeraj Kanwar, the company's chief operating officer.
"Apollo Tyre should remain committed to the Findlay community where Cooper Tire has been for a century," Mr. Brown said in prepared comments.
"After meeting with Apollo's senior management leaders, I am pleased to hear that they are already working with the United Steelworkers to ensure the growth of this company and to protect Ohio's jobs and workers.
"I look forward to working with Apollo Tyres to ensure that it is spurring local economic growth and the rights of its workers now and in the future."
Apollo and Cooper announced Apollo's offer to buy Cooper on June 12 in a deal valued at $2.5 billion.
