City Tire hits 85, launches World Series contest

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (July 15, 2013) — City Tire Co., which has 11 locations throughout Massachusetts, Vermont, New Hampshire and Connecticut, is celebrating 85 years in business this month.

City Tire said it was founded in July 1927 by Irving Greenberg, who had recently arrived in the U.S. from Russia. The company is now run by his grandsons, Peter and Danny Greenberg.

To help celebrate its 85th anniversary, City Tire—long-time Boston Red Sox supporters—will give 11 fans an opportunity to each win $8,500 in this year's World Series, even if Boston is not involved, the dealership said.

Beginning in July, people may either visit a City Tire store or register online if a grand slam is hit in the eighth inning of the first game. Each store will have a drawing to select a potential winner.

In addition to a wide range of tires, each of the 11 stores provides full-service repair work on anything from air conditioning to electrical service. The stores offer a complete range of tires, the company said, including truck, farm, high-performance and giant off-road.

City Tire is affiliated with Memphis, Tenn.-based Del-Nat Tire Corp., which has a network of 80 dealer/distributors who are also stockholders in the company.
