DRESDEN, Germany (July 11, 2013) — Volkswagen Group honored Pirelli Tyre S.p.A. recently with a "Global Champion" nomination in recognition of the tire maker's contributions as an innovative OE component supplier.
Pirelli was the only tire company and one of only 21 OE suppliers so recognized by VW at a recent ceremony in Dresden.
In presenting Pirelli with the award, VW noted the tire maker's "firm commitment, competitiveness and ability to innovate, with the development of self-sealing technology underlining the company's technical knowhow and ability to rise to future challenges."
Pirelli supplies VW with 6 million high-performance tires annually—with more than 200 homologations covering sizes that range from 15 to 21 inches rim diameter, the tire maker said.
Among the VW Group models equipped with Pirelli tires are the Porsche Carrera, Boxster, Cayenne and Panamera, Lamborghini Aventador and Gallardo, Bentley Continental GT and Flying Spur, Audi A3, A4, A5, A6, A7, A8, Q3, Q7, RS5, RS6 and TT and VW Tiguan, Touareg, Phaeton and Golf.
Pirelli said it has 250 additional homologations under development for models set to go into production within the next few years.
The company supplies VW operations in Europe, Latin America, Mexico and China. Pirelli said it also is engaged with VW in joint business development in Russia and the U.S.
