WAYNE, N.J. (June 27, 2013) — Hankook Tire America Corp. and Michelin North America Inc.'s Oliver Rubber business unit have achieved SmartWay verification for their Aurora-brand radial truck and bus tires and Vantage Trailer II precure tread rubber, respectively.
Hankook said five of its Aurora-brand truck tires—UF03 (long haul steer), UF04 (regional steer/all-position), UF07 (long haul trailer), UZ02 (closed shoulder drive position) and UZ03 (open shoulder drive position)—have been verified as fuel-saving and/or emission-reducing products under the Environmental Protection Agency's SmartWay Technology Program.
Brian Sheehey, director of commercial tire sales for Hankook, said achieving SmartWay status for these tires is an "impressive acknowledgement of Hankook's commitment to designing and manufacturing the type of high-quality, low-rolling-resistance, fuel-efficient and affordable tires fleets are looking for."
Hankook did not say which sizes of the tires were verified.
The Oliver Vantage Trailer II tread rubber is designed for use on tires in single- or tandem-axle trailer position applications, according to Michelin.
The tread rubber offers a 13/32nd-inch tread depth in a straight groove pattern designed for free-rolling positions. It is available with or without Serra-Sipes for added traction and in four sizes: 205, 210, 220 and 230 and features Oliver's VDI plus visual depth indicator.
All Oliver retreads carry a national warranty to 2/32nd-inch of tread depth, the company said.
