WASHINGTON (June 12, 2013) — The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has granted the petition of Bridgestone Americas Tire Operations L.L.C. for a finding of inconsequential noncompliance in the case of 467 Firestone Transforce AT replacement light truck tires.
The finding of inconsequential noncompliance means Bridgestone Americas will not be required to conduct a formal safety recall of the tires.
The company manufactured the tires, size LT265/70R17, at its plant in Uoliette, Quebec, between Nov. 20 and Dec. 10, 2011, according to a June 12 Federal Register notice.
The tires are marked on their sidewalls as having a maximum load of 1,350 kilograms, when in fact the correct number is 1,320 kg., Bridgestone Americas told NHTSA. However, the tires have their maximum load correctly marked in pounds, and furthermore they passed all federal endurance and high-speed tests at a load of 1,350 kg., the tire maker said.
