LEWISTON, Maine (June 11, 2013) — Sullivan Tire & Auto Service's Lewiston store is hosting Bigfoot, the original monster truck, this coming weekend as part of the truck's national tour schedule.
Sullivan said Bigfoot #12, a 1979 Ford F150 body on a tubular chassis weighing in at approximately 10,000 pounds, will be on display from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. June 14 and from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. June 15. Its national tour is being underwritten by Bridgestone Americas' Firestone brand, according information posted on Bigfoot 4X4 Inc.'s website.
Bigfoot #12—a dedicated display truck—is the 14th vehicle built in the Bigfoot fleet, Sullivan said. This particular model debuted at a display in conjunction with Super Bowl XXVII at the Rose Bowl in in January 1993. Since then, it has logged more than 200 display days per year at Firestone and Summit Racing Equipment dealer locations and other events across the country. Driver Ron Bachmann is accompanying the truck on its tour.
The Bigfoot monster truck debuted in 1974, competing in local truck pulls and mud runs. It was created by Bob and Marilyn Chandler.
There are four display, seven competition and two demonstration versions of Bigfoot, according to the website.
