AUGUSTA, Maine (May 28, 2013) —Maine Gov. Paul LePage has signed into law legislation to prohibit the sale of gasoline containing corn-based ethanol as an additive at a level greater than 10 percent by volume (E10), according to the Specialty Equipment Market Association (SEMA).
Diamond Bar, Calif.-based SEMA said the law will not take effect until at least two other New England states also have enacted laws that effectively ban the sale of E15 gasoline.
Separate legislation to prohibit the sale of any corn-based ethanol gasoline pending similar prohibitions in at least two other New England states failed in the Maine Senate by a 21–14 vote, SEMA said, although the bill remains alive as senators reconsider the vote.
More information about the legislation is available on the SEMA Action Network (SAN) website or by contacting the association's Steve McDonald via email at [email protected].
